What is the International Thespian Society?

The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the honor society for middle and secondary school theatre students. Membership is granted for the performance of meritorious work in theatre arts that meets the Society's general guidelines. Students meet one important induction requirement by earning Thespian points.

What are thespian points?

A point system helps track student work, as high school and middle school students earn induction and the designation of Thespian or Junior Thespian, respectively. Students go on to earn progressively higher honors.

What is a thespian induction?

MFAA Theatre Students who accrue 10 points based on after-school volunteer service for the Theatre Department (approximately 10 hours per point) are eligible for induction into International Thespian Society Troupe #4229. Hours are tracked by the Royale Theatre Society Thespian Union Steward parent volunteer.

What Students Get

  1. Official membership pin, card, and certificate

  2.  Exclusive Thespian interviews for college admission and scholarships

  3. School, state, and international leadership opportunities

  4. Eligibility for state and international Thespian opportunities including training, mentoring, and assessment from theatre arts educators and stage professionals

  5. Dramatics magazine subscription, the only publication edited exclusively for theatre students and teachers 

  6. Pride, recognition, and affirmation in earning induction into an international honor society

  7. Graduation bling and regalia- stoles, cords, medals, pins, and certificates

POSSIBLE HONORS

Thespians who demonstrate high academic success in overall coursework while achieving excellent work in theatre earn the distinction "scholar." The scholar distinction always follows the student’s rank to create his or her full designation:

  • Thespian Scholar

  • Honor Thespian President's List Scholar

  • National Honor Thespian Scholar

  • Students with a 3.5 GPA become Vice President's List Scholars

  • Students with a 4.0 GPA are awarded the President's List Scholar distinction

  • Texas Thespian State Festival- a convention of over 8000 high school Thespians!

Rules and Expectations

The following rules are meant to create a more professional, friendly and inclusive environment in the McCallum Theater community.

  • If a rule is broken then it will result in strikes against your name.

  • If you receive 3 strikes then you will have a disciplinary meeting in which final repercussions will be decided.

  • The breaking of certain rules will result in automatic expulsion from RCP and those rules are clearly listed.

1. If you are 5 minutes late 3 times it will result in 1 strike.

2. If you are 10 minutes late two times it will result in 1 strike.

3. If you are 15 minutes late once it will result in 1 strike.

Event Behavior

These apply to all McCallum events including RCP events, Texas Thespian Festival and any theatre productions that you are working.

1. If you have to be reminded to stay on task more then 2 times it will result in 1 strike a. At events you are expected to be on task at all times this is in order to create a more professional appearance.

2. If you have to be told to stop doing something inappropriate it will result in 1 strike a. Examples of inappropriate things include talking to friends instead of working and being on your phone when you should not be as well as many other things.

3. Missing an event without giving at least 2 weeks of notice will result in 2 strikes a. An exception being that if you have an emergency that results in missing an event.

Meeting Rules

1. Unprofessional behavior that continues after being given 2 warnings will result in 1 strike.

a. This includes talking over people, not listening and being on your phone along with other things deemed as disrespectful or unprofessional.

Social Media Rules

This means that at least one officer needs to be following your spam account and main account .

1. Posting any pictures of yourself or anyone else that include drugs or alcohol in the photo will result in 1 strike.

a. This also includes just posting any picture of drugs or alcohol even if you are not in the picture.

2. Posting any pictures that include negative comments about McCallum theater, any faculty or staff or McCallum theater and or any of your fellow RCP officers will result in 1 strike.

Breaking the following rules will result in IMMEDIATE EXPULSION

Possession or consumption of drugs or alcohol during any McCallum event will result in immediate expulsion.
